Rt. 168 starts at the end of the Chesapeake (VA) expressway at the VA/NC state line and continues south through the heart of mainland Currituck County as the 5 lane scenic Caratoke Highway 45 miles ending at the Wright Memorial Causeway to the beaches. Along the way you'll pass through communities such as Moyock, Currituck and Coinjock whose native American names describe their landmark attributes, and then Aydlett, Grandy,  Jarvisburg and Powell's Point which commemorate the early families settling there from Europe, and finally, Harbinger and Point Harbor as  you near the ocean. Currituck was established in 1668 as a thriving cultural and commercial center during much of America's expansion to the west. If there are antiques and historical treasures to be found, you'll find them in Currituck!
